Let's Honor Memorial Day...Together
...Memorial Day 2023
Dear Friends Old and New,
Memorial Day is upon us-- and unlike Veterans' Day when we honor all who have served, on Memorial Day we honor those who have laid down their lives for their Country, the ultimate sacrifice. My hope is that here in a polarized Nation we might put aside our differences, often trivial when seen in this context, and think seriously about those Americans who have died so that we can do whatever we choose to do over this long holiday weekend. These are the truest of Americans, are they not? No amount of dedicated thought or rumination on my part can possibly begin to acknowledge in gratitude what has gone on since the Nation's founding-- in all our wars and conflicts. Further, I know only 1% of us sign up to defend this Nation, now. I know recruitments are short, up to 50% short, if what I've read is half way accurate. I also read that our divisions are so deep now that Citizens of our Country can no longer recognize what a threat to the Nation, the society, the body politic is even made of, as if to suggest that a unified defense if needed, is increasingly difficult to imagine. I hope this proves to be wholly erroneous, terribly off-base information that will not survive to be proven true. I prefer to believe that all of us can come together to honor those who have recognized threats to our Country over 200+ years and who have given their All in its defense. Here is to Memorial Day, 2023.
Biblical Prints: John 13:34: "Religion," as we often witness, is fashionably trashed by the predictably data-driven, often self-righteous, secular Left, possessed by the desire to make itself the center of power, law and authority up and down this society-- working overtime to obliterate any idea or set of ideas that competes with its manufactured, ephemeral, chaotic all-too-narrow, worldly orthodoxies, demanding conformity, everywhere...what a tedious bore. Then, there is the question of one's personal faith, one's faith tradition. And there is the question for non-believers-- "I don't believe it." And the question for agnostics, those who could believe-- if only someone could 'prove it to me.' And the question for data-gatherers, science people, people of logic and rationality who want to participate in an extra-earthly experience that 'makes sense.' What a world we live in! The idea that logic or rationality or deductive reasoning, or any sort of conscious attempt to pin down the Metaphysical is itself humorous, isn't it? Consequently, I find my faith prints timely and inspiring--and am happy to make them available to you or your organization on an "anytime" basis. Honestly, to see these images hanging in offices and rooms of friends is always a special treat that warms my heart. Last summer, a friend gave his brother an art print gift, seen here, an unusual interpretation of John 3:16. These typographic prints do make excellent gifts at any time of year, most especially during this green period of Spring when the earth really is in blossom.
