In a month haven't we seen all kinds of trial? Economic, military, foreign policy, political, health and sickness...thank goodness the birds maintain their cool going into fall; honey-bees are focused on winter, now, nectar flows have largely passed by, life has a very serious tenor to it.

Here in mid-September all signs and signals point to season's changing, the season of apples, pies, and winter prep are just ahead. Personally, I have not moved much beyond the end of July, yet, but no doubt this will be changing in the next couple of weeks. I have a habit of longing for summer long after it has passed. I hang on to summer nights as well as days. There is just something irresistible about the season I do not like to relinquish.
A friend advises, given the tumult in our national life, "Day by day, hold on to your peace, George." His remark still resonates all these weeks later. The end of Daylight Savings coming up, the end of the peach pie and fresh corn season reinforces the idea in the sentiment.
